Schedules can be crazy year-round. Between driving to Taekwando, swim, play dates, birthday parties, baseball, and soccer, weekend hours seem to fill quickly. In a blink of the eye, your calendar goes from open to booked solid. For those few open days you have, creating the perfect family day in between all these activities can be difficult. In addition, finding that perfect place the whole family can enjoy can also be a challenge. What does the perfect family outing look like to you?
Shockingly, my family recently had one open day with nothing planned. Gasp! I encourage my husband and me to think about what we could do as a family that would be fun each of us. Should we head into the city and have a day at the aquarium and lunch on the water? Or should we head to a nearby seaside town, one that’s my all-time favorite, and stroll the cliff walk and hit up our favorite seafood and cocktail place? Should we check out a go-kart place not too far from the house? What we finally agreed on was the perfect combination of adult fun and kid fun. Kimball Farms is a family-run business that is classic family fun and has a host of fun activities, a place you can spend all day at.
The farm not only has an ice cream stand and a full restaurant that was serving what looked like delicious fried seafood plates, it also hosts a number of activities that each member of your family can enjoy. There is a driving range and pitch ‘n’ putt for those golfers. While we didn’t partake in those activities, after hitting a bucket of balls in the heat you could head straight over to the mist tent to cool down. How cool is that?! There was a beach volleyball net if you came with a big group. There was an animal adventures tent, with owls, and lizards and even pony rides. Do you want to make the day memorable? Then step right up to the caricaturist that will create a custom picture for you.
The fun doesn’t stop there! The batting cages was a huge win for my family. We also had a very competitive (something we should probably work on!) game of mini-golf and tried our darnedest to get each other wet on the bumper boats. The farm also has bumper cars, a zip line, and an arcade, which we spend quite a bit of time in because of a passing thunderstorm. From lemonade to adult beverages, you can sit and relax in some Adirondack chairs and soak up the sun for a minute or under an umbrella to get some shade from the heat.
This farm was an hour from our house, so a bit of a drive, but worth the trip. I encourage you to find that perfect day trip location near you. One that has something for each member of your family. One where you can picture yourself spending a good portion of the day at because of that. In addition, a place where you can make memories as a family.
